Shanklin is located on the eastern side of the island. The town is split into two, with the town centre being accessible from the seafront by a cliff-lift.
The town shares the same bay as Sandown.
The town is the terminal for the islands railway service, with Ventnor being accessible only by bus or car.
The town is the location of Shanklin Chine. The chine was part of the PLUTO
pipeline which helped in WW2. There is also a waterfall that runs from the entrance of the chine to the seafront
